About Enrolling in the Distance Learning Courses
Thank you for your interest in the International Sumi-e Association“Distance Learning course”. Please be sure to read this before applying.
◆Application Period◆
August 1, 2025 (Friday) - August 31, 2025 (Sunday)
※Applications for the Distance Learning course are accepted only once a year during this period.
◆How to Apply◆
Please submit the following documents and photo via “Contact” on our website:
① Application form
② A copy of ID with your date of birth
③ Head shot (for creating a membership card. Size does not matter)
◆Payment Method for Tuition◆
Please transfer the tuition fee for Term-A (59,840 yen) by Sunday, August 31st to one of the following baccounts.

◆After Payment◆
・Once your payment is confirmed, we will proceed with your membership
registration and send the necessary textbooks and documents by email or post.
・You will also receive the URL and password to access the Term-A course videos via email.
・For Term-B and beyond, we will notify you by email every six months regarding tuition payment.
◆Start Date and Painting Tools◆
・The course starts on October 1, 2025.
・Please prepare your own painting tools which is no specific requirements.
Our association has materials suitable for Sumi-e painting, so you can purchase them from our website if necessary.

◆Face-to-Face Lessons◆
If you would like to attend face-to-face classes, please contact us.
◆Correction and Feedback◆
The first submission of each assignment will be included in the tuition fee.
If your assignment is not approved and you resubmit, a fee of ¥880 per assignment will apply.
◆Basic Course Completion Certificate Issuance◆
・After studying in the Basic (Instructor Qualification) Course for over two years and passing all assignments, you may apply for a certificate of completion.
・Application required. Fee: ¥5,500 (VAT included)
◆Obtaining Instructor Qualifications◆
・Those who have studied in the Basic (Instructor Qualification) Course for over two years, passed all assignments, and been selected twice for the International Sumi-e Association Exhibition are eligible to apply for instructor qualification.
・Application required. Fee: ¥33,000 (VAT included)
・This qualification is mandatory for those who wish to teach Sumi-e.
・If you have obtained the certificate of completion, you may apply for instructor qualification after being selected twice in exhibitions.
◆Long-term Absence or Suspension◆
If continuing the course becomes difficult due to personal circumstances, you may take a long-term absence or temporarily withdraw.
◆Change of Status◆
You can change your status from distance learning member to on-site class member, as long as you submit the application from 30 days in advice, and approved by the head office.
◆Cancellation Policy◆
Cancellations after payment are not accepted in principle. If cancellation is unavoidable, please contact us promptly.
